Update on Student Union from President Hoffman

Neil Hoffman, PresidentWe’ve updated your student regarding the Student Union, and we’d like to keep you informed too!

Thanks to the quick action of MIAD Security Director Keith Kotowicz and the Milwaukee Fire Department, the Student Union building was saved. Primary damage from the fire the first week in January was to the second floor and the roof.

While the building is in the process of being restored (more on that below), staff have developed a temporary site for the Union adjacent to the Om Nom cafe.

The space has new couches, a flat screen TV, and coffee service and expanded bakery from Alterra. We are also working to ensure that students who staffed the Union will staff this new space, or work in other areas of the college.

Together, the Om Nom Cafe and Student Union will run as an integrated unit, open from 7:30 am – 9 pm Monday to Thursday; and from 7:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Fridays. That means that your student will have additional and rotating food options throughout the day.

I would like to thank the entire community – staff, students, faculty and trustees – for their concern, support and willingness to create a positive outcome from this occurrence.

What an amazing community we have here at MIAD.

Neil Hoffman, President
