Craftsmanship and culture celebrated during summer Gallery Weekend at MIAD

Raja-1-web_fullThree women explore their respective cultures through art,and students and local artisans showcase innovative furniture design during Gallery Weekend, July 22 – 23 at MIAD.

Artists Sabin Aell, Nina Ghanbarzadeh and Nirmal Raja ’08 (Painting) illustrate their pasts through art, drawing from a tapestry of experiences stemming from living outside of their traditional cultures in Material Girls. The exhibition, curated by the artists, opens Friday, July 22, is on view in the Brooks Stevens Gallery with an Opening Reception Saturday, July 23, 2 – 5 p.m. with a Gallery Talk beginning at 3 p.m.

A new furniture exhibition features student works created in the Spring 2016 furniture class, taught by Robert Lynch and Dick Ivens, as well as works created by local artisans that will be featured in the Fall 2016 Fine Furnishings Show.The exhibition is on view in the Entrance and River Level Galleries, with an Opening Reception on Summer Gallery Night, July 22.

Gallery Weekend hours are Friday, July 22, 5 – 9 p.m. and Saturday, July 23, 9christian_franczyk_1 a.m. – 5 p.m.
