BE AWARE PLEASE: From the MIAD LIbrary

The details… Please be aware that the SWITCH Library Consortium, to which MIAD is a part of, has been chosen for BETA testing – which means testing to work out the kinks of program upgrades. One of the kinks we are currently aware of is: COURTESY NOTICES ARE NOT CONSISTENTLY BEING SENT OUT. Please do not rely on email reminders from the library at this time to make sure you return items promptly when due. If you want to check when items you have out are due, please log into My Account on the library’s catalog at: topcat.switchinc.org. Please contact Cathryn Wilson with any questions regarding this matter, and thank you for your patience as we work out the things that did not translate smoothly.

XXXXX // Sean Carins and Branden Martz – Erie Street Gallery Exhibition Opening

The details… Friday, September 23 · 6:00pm – 8:00pm

Erie Street Gallery
266 E Erie St. – Connected to our own MIAD Student Union
Milwaukee, WI

Artists – Sean Cairns (Student Alum) and Branden Martz (Sculpture lab tech)

In a room – a non-descript room bisected by a large obtuse object from which emanates a magnificent specter is placed a group of mediums. Each is a specific characterization composed of lucid facades. The subsequent affect that unfolds is a suspension that swells peaking at a common communion. Realizing that key substances, needed for dissecting the experience, are missing, a fiction stands in for the omitted and the placebo takes affect. In the center of the assembly a robust electricity, the kind found in children listlessly grays under the pressure of enlightened mores. Front stage, a requester bound to a text seeks the required device to deconstruct the spiritual trumpeters and the overwhelming nature of it all. Realizing these surrogate forms have been raised by a masterful con the half-hearted believers quiver, mourning their deception.

XXXXX is an exhibition that posses more questions than answers. The exhibition is inspired by human projection as a form of constructive curatorial viewership. Each object and set-like intervention attempts to harden metaphysical material that develops within the viewer. Ultimately allowing viewers to experience for themselves how they may or may not be duped by their experience.

The show will be up from the 23rd to October 17th.
