The details… Emily Ebert Tip: Are you feeling intimidated by a big online reading assignment? If you own a smart phone it probably has a text to speech setting for accessibility purposes that can read aloud any text you highlight! On an IPhone, go to Settings>General>Accessibility>Speak Selection and turn Speak Selection ON. Now you can highlight any text on your phone, select Speak, and it will read it back to you!

Often times I find it difficult to read long articles and digital textbooks on screen. I end up re-reading paragraphs or reading slowly because the screen strains my eyes. Using this text to speech tool, I can read through the text at a steady pace and pause when I need to take notes. If you’re an auditory learner, listening to the material as you follow along can help you better retain what you are doing.

Happy reading!
