LRC TIP OF THE WEEK: Writing Strategy: Let the Assignment Incubate!

The details… Great papers seldom come fully formed. Use waiting time (e.g., walking to class, waiting in line at the bus stop, doing laundry) to think about what you have to do in this assignment and how you want to respond. You’ll be surprised how much this extra thinking time can help when you sit down to dow the writing!

The details… Emily suggests: What with the long winter and impending warm weather, you might be feeling the remaining vestiges of cabin fever, and even more so with the end of the semester in sight. Final projects pressure us to put our nose to the grind stone, and we all feel a little deprived of the newly arriving sunshine.

But wait! You SHOULD get outside for a bit! Don’t abandon your commitment to homework, but try to take a walk. If you are doing work at home, take a turn around the block every hour or so. If you are at school, use your break time to walk down to Bella Cafe or Cynthia’s Restaurant for some good food to go.

You don’t want to lose track of time, but keep in mind that it is also good for your concentration to take a break to stretch your legs and get your blood flowing! So enjoy the sunshine when you can!
