Enter Milwaukee Riverkeepers Graphic Design Competition

Milwaukee Riverkeeper needs talented artists to design a graphic for our 22nd Annual Spring River Cleanup! Our Annual Spring River Cleanup is one of the largest cleanups in Wisconsin and takes place throughout the entire Milwaukee River Basin, so it calls for top-notch artwork!

We will feature the winning artwork on 4,000 volunteer t-shirts as well as our posters, postcards, and social media. Because every volunteer receives a free t-shirt, thousands of people will wear your artwork for years to come. In addition, we will award a $100 prize for the winning design. Enter our design competition to gain recognition for your art while helping us achieve swimmable, fishable rivers for future generations!

We value artists’ creative efforts so we will run our contest following the guidelines for ethical art competitions published by the Graphic Artist’s Guild to the best of our ability. If your design does not win, you will retain all rights to your artwork.

What is it? Alumni Senior Exhibition Scholarships are given to final year students to aid in the completion of their senior exhibition. These cash awards are intended to cover project and exhibition expenses, and may range from $500 – $1,000, depending on anticipated students expenses (as well as money raised through an annual alumni solicitation). Applications will be reviewed and selected by MIAD Alumni representing a diversity of majors. It is anticipated to provide 2 – 4 awards.

How to Apply: Make a copy of your Space Request Form (the one that will be handed in to your advisor) that includes your faculty advisor’s signature.

The following must also be included:

Budget
What would you do with the award?
What impact would receiving the award have on you or your work?
Additional information such as images or full proposals welcomed.

They could be anyone. They could be anywhere. And even after decades 28 years, the Guerrilla Girls are more relevant than ever.

Nationally-recognized feminist activist artists Guerrilla Girls join the MIAD Creativity Series Wednesday, February 22, 6 – 7:30 p.m. in the Fourth Floor Raw Space of the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design.

For decades the Guerrilla Girls have exposed gender and racial bias and corruption through facts, humor and outrageous visuals. Their public presentation at MIAD will include music, video of their work and a discussion of historical and contemporary discrimination in art, film and politics. The talk, generously sponsored by Katie Heil, Madeleine Lubar and the Bert L. and Patricia S. Steigleder Charitable Trust, is followed by a Q&A.

Do museums and galleries present just the facts, or are hidden statements and perspectives included?

On Thursday, February 2, 6 p.m. in the MIAD Student Union, a panel of artists and designers will come together to discuss their work, MIAD’s Just the Facts exhibition, and the ideas behind it–how museums and galleries tell their stories. They’ll also talk about how this topic of truth and its presentation has become more and more important in our media and political climate.

Enter Serena and Lily Design Dream Dorm Design Challenge

Show us your creativity and design the room of your dreams! we are looking for a functional and cohesive space, so show us how you would bring your design to life!

College students who enter have the chance to win $2,000, which can be used toward college fees, course books and supplies. Your students can enter by following the submission criteria below:

A complete physical or digital rendering of your dream dorm room is to be submitted, including textile swatches, spatial plans, and a color scheme if applicable.
Submission of your name, major area of study, and the college you attend.
An outline of the inspiration behind your design (100 to 300 words).
A brief description of your career plans, both immediately following and 5 years after graduation (100 to 300 words).

The challenge is a great opportunity for students to practice their design and project skills. The competition closes on Tuesday 17 February 2017 and the winner will be decided upon by a panel of 4 expert judges.
