PAA JOE & THE LION at the Milwaukee Film Festival

Article *
MIAD is a community partner on the film PAA JOE & THE LION at the 2017 Milwaukee Film Festival.

Here are the days, times and locations of the screenings of the film:

Friday, September 29, 7 p.m. at the Oriental Theatre
Sunday, October 1, 1 p.m. at the Times Cinema
Wednesday, October 11, 2 p.m. at the Avalon Theater

“Once upon a time in Ghana, Paa Joe’s business – bespoke “fantasy coffins,” meticulously crafted simulacra of mythic beasts – was booming, but that time appears long past. His son Jacob seeks to return the family business to its former glory, a plan that begins with an artist residency in the UK where they will craft their biggest and boldest coffin yet: a majestic lion. Paa Joe & The Lion is the heartwarming fish-out-of-water story about a father and son embracing life through art that celebrates death.”

Visit or the Oriental Theater box office to buy tickets. Be sure to watch the MIAD Facebook and Instagram pages for contests to win tickets!

How to Use the Sewing Lab

Article *
Hello Students, Faculty and Staff,

The MIAD Sewing Lab is off to a great start this semester! We are preparing for the inaugural FYE Dye Event, in which the entire co-hort of freshmen will be dying fabric for their Visual Language class. During the NSP brat fest we altered tee-shirts, screen printed by the Printmaking Lab. And next weekend, September 23rd and 24th we will be at the Maker Faire held at the State Fair Park where we will be showing the world how we make batik using the Open Lab 3D Printers!

If you want to get it on all of the fun and/or if you’d like to use a Sewing Machine, contact Maggie Sasso, to set up an appointment to be trained on the equipment and given permission to check out sewing kits!
