The Search for Student Leaders is On!

Article *
Student Services are looking to fill the following on-campus positions:

MIAD Mentor: If you enjoy working with people and are interested in developing your leadership skills, being a MIAD Mentor is for you! MIAD mentors welcome new students to the college, run orientation events and assist students in the transition to college life. We are looking for strong candidates and we encourage you to apply.

MIAD Ambassador: A MIAD Ambassador is a knowledgeable and experienced tour guide and public event host. Ambassadors represent MIAD to the external community. A MIAD Ambassador possesses strong academic skills, speaking skills, is enthusiastic and out-going; able to confidently and enthusiastically lead tours, and is key to making events successful at MIAD.

MIAD Tutor: If you are interested in assisting your peers develop academic competence in writing, as well as work with them in such areas as research, time management and test-taking skills, being a MIAD Tutor is for you! Peer Tutors are good writers with strong academic skills who like to share their enthusiasm for learning.

MIAD RA: RA’s provide leadership, direction, and support to our 252 residential students from the moment they move in throughout their stay in college housing. Because they live next door to the students for whom they are responsible, RA’s know their residents and use that knowledge to help them make connections with their classmates and with MIAD. At this time we are also hiring RA’s for our Pre-College Core and Majors Program, which take place during the month of July. Pre-College RAs host programs, keep track of our visiting high school students, and help with other duties as assigned.

LRC Tip of the Week: Change Your Audience!

Article *
People very often have difficulty writing because they can’t seem to translate the ideas in their head into appropriate academic language. So, ignore the language and pretend
you are writing to your mother, a friend, or even a family pet. Expressing your ideas more casually allows you to relax and facilitates sincere expression. Once your thoughts are down on paper, you can always revise them to sound more academic.

For more tips on how to develop your writing, talk with a tutor in the LRC (available MondayThursday 11 am to 6 pm).
