Selections from
SCHOOLS FOR THE COLORED
and
RED SUMMER

by
Guggenheim Fellow Wendel White!

From his artist statements:

+ Schools for the Colored is an extension of the ideas that formed the project Small Towns, Black Lives, in that, it is a continuation of my journey through the African American landscape.

+ The photo-based works in this project [Red Summer] survey the sites of race riots and race conflicts between 1917 and 1923.

Don’t miss the chance to view this provocative exhibition!

LRC TIP OF THE WEEK: OVERCOMING WRITER’S BLOCK!

Letting the Assignment Incubate

Great papers seldom come fully formed. Use waiting time (e.g., walking to class, waiting
in line at the bank, doing laundry) to think about what you have to do in this assignment
and how you want to respond. You’ll be surprised how much this extra thinking time can
help!

For more tips and strategies for college success, talk to a tutor in the Learning Commons!

LRC Tip of the Week: REPRESENT YOUR IDEAS VISUALLY!

Article *
Once you’ve got an idea of what you want to say, try to create a visual representation.
Maybe you want to draw a concept map to show how your ideas are related. Or perhaps you want to write your main ideas on big sheets of paper in different colors. These strategies can help you identify weaknesses in your structure or gaps in your logic. And besides, they’re fun!

For additional strategies to develop your ideas in writing, please stop in to chat with a tutor. They are trained and eager to be supportive in your path to success! Peer tutors are available MondayThursday, 11 am to 6 pm.

2nd Floor Vending Being Removed – Use Your Funds

Article *
If you have an account with the vending on the 2nd Floor we recommend you use your funds asap. It is not recommended that you add money on to your account. The company can remove their equipment at any time. It makes sense to pay as you go in the interim. We are sorry for this inconvenience. Look for an improvement in vending coming 2nd semester.
