FERPA (Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act) is a federal law that governs the privacy of student education records, access to those records and disclosure of information from them.
FERPA requires written consent from students for the disclosure of financial and educational information and records. Without written consent from the student through the “Release of Student Information Form,” MIAD is legally prohibited from releasing a student’s personal, academic or financial information to anyone except the student, regardless of the student’s age.
Exceptions to FERPA are allowed in life-threatening emergencies.
Questions about FERPA should be directed to Jean Weimer, Director of Registration Services; 414-847-3272, jeanweimer@miad.edu. Any questions regarding your student’s personal information cannot be answered through the Parent Communication Program.
