Due to the continued concerns regarding COVID-19, MIAD has made the decision to hold courses online for the Summer 2020 semester. This is a unique situation for the Service Learning department, as typically students are asked to go out into their communities and work one-on-one with local organizations. For the safety of students, faculty, staff, and the community at large, the MIAD Service Learning department has instead shifted to finding remote learning opportunities for students and putting together the opportunity for students to design and implement their own remote service learning projects.
We believe that though this situation has changed the way we live in unprecedented ways, it can also serve as an opportunity to challenge students to redefine service. MIAD students are creative, determined, and have a wide range of skills that can still be of great use to their communities, especially now when the world is in need of creative solutions for new problems.
MIAD is proud to have a strong Service Learning program that engages students in the local community and we look forward to having students complete their service projects in person as soon as it is safe to do so. In the meantime, we’re eager to see how students rise to the challenge and use their skills to help out from a distance.
