After all freshmen completed their capstone thesis assignments in Art History, a panel of area judges selected the Best of the Best, which were presented by seven students at the Milwaukee Art Museum in April.

Each student focused their research on one work of art or design in the museum that addressed one of four themes: human form, aesthetic, their natural world or symbolic elements.

They were judged based on their ability to deliver a five-minute focused, professional presentation that conveyed critical interpretation of the selected work and theme through content, research and analysis.

Judges were: Lee Ann Garrison, Chair of the Department of Visual Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; Philip Krejcarek, Professor of Art and Chair of Visual & Performing Arts at Carroll University; Richard Leson, Professor of Medieval Art History at UWM; Catherine Sawinski, Assistant Curator of Early European Art at the Milwaukee Art Museum; and Lynne Shumow, Curator of Education at Marquette University’s Haggerty Museum of Art.
