Jonathan Higgins was born in Oakland, CA in 1962. He earned a BA in Art from Humboldt State University in 1987, and an MA in Art from New York University in 1992. Higgins’ work has focused primarily in printmaking, and more recently in metalpoint drawing. Higgins’ work has been exhibited on three continents, and he has been awarded several prestigious artist residencies, including The Frans Masereeel Centrum, Kasterlee, Belgium; Artica, Bilbao, Spain; Kala Art Institute, Berkeley, CA; and the Ballinglen Arts Foundation, Ballycastle, Mayo, Ireland. Higgins has had recent solo exhibitions at Chestnut Health Systems, Bloomington, IL and Gallery Jatad, Houston, TX . Recent group exhibitions include I’ll Be Your Mirror: Recent Work by Sarah Smelser and Jonathan Higgins, Knox College, Galesburg, IL; Point/Line/Shape/Form, McLean County Art Center, Bloomington IL; Lineal: Jonathan Higgins & Jaqueline Dee Parker, Gallery Jatad, Houston, TX; and the Cedarhurst Biennial, the Mitchell Museum, Cedarhurst Center for the Arts, Mt. Vernon, IL. Higgins’ work is included in Silverpoint and Metalpoint Drawing: A Complete Guide to the Medium, published by Routledge in 2019.

He has collaborated with many artists and worked at printmaking studios in the U.S. and Europe, including Kala Art Institute, Berkeley, CA; The Printmaking Workshop, New York, NY; Rutgers Center for Innovative Print and Paper, New Brunswick, NJ; Vinalhaven Press, Vinalhaven, ME. Higgins co-founded Galamander Press, New York, NY in 1995, which he ran with several partners before starting Manneken Press in 2000.
